People who take their dogs for walks frequently and let them scavenge along the way could face serious issues. This is because the more your dog eats food while on a walk, the more likely it is to pick up something harmful or poisonous. Whether they eat something that will only give them a bellyache or something deadly, you do not want your dog to fall victim to poison due to scavenging. The solution is to train your dog to stop eating everything it sees when you are walking him. Try to start by teaching your canine a simple command that will work on even the most food-obsessed dogs.
Teach Your Dog to “Watch Me” The idea behind teaching your dog to watch you is to get their attention immediately and on-demand. Try this exercise off the leash in a location where your dog cannot run away. Have treats and a clicker ready before beginning this dog training exercise. Start by clicking, praising, and giving your dog a treat every time he moves in your direction and makes eye contact when you call him. Give him the treat in a way that has him maintaining eye contact with you. For instance, try holding the treat between your eyes and moving it straight towards your dog's head. Release your dog after giving him a few rewards this way. Repeat the exercise until your dog responds very quickly, despite distractions or distance between you. This command can also be practiced on the leash. Whenever your dog makes spontaneous eye contact with you, click, praise, and treat the dog. Practice these exercises in lots of short bursts and multiple locations. The more locations you can make your dog watch you, the more reliable it will be. Dogs who scavenge put themselves in danger of bellyaches or even death. However, teaching them commands, such as "watch me" can help you stop your dog from consuming everything it finds. If the problem persists after practicing this command with your pet, attending dog training sessions may be a better idea for you.

Are you in the market for a new dog kennel? If so, many pet owners get confused about what is best for their favorite pooch. There are so many options on the market, and it is often hard to determine whether a luxury kennel or simple wire crate is efficient. Fortunately, deciding on the right enclosure is not rocket science. You only need to consider three things.
1. Size The primary concern for any dog owner is that the kennel is the right size. Too many people force their dogs into cages that are too small. Finding the right size is relatively straightforward. Measure your dog's height and length. You want the height of the kennel to allow your furry friend to stand all the way up, with its head above its shoulders. You also want to make sure that there is enough room for your dog to stand, turn and stretch. 2. Durability Some dogs are more energetic than others, which means having a durable dog kennel is crucial. Most enclosures come in wire, plastic or travel varieties. Wire is the standard for kennel construction and typically more affordable, but it does not always look the most attractive. Plastic offers a strong and desirable cage, but some dogs will chew on the sides. Travel crates are typically the most durable and made with heavy-duty construction for long-distance travel. 3. Safety Ensuring the safety of your animal is also of the utmost importance in selecting a kennel. While there are collapsible models, a rambunctious pup may cause the enclosure to collapse on themselves. Also, some wire models have sharp areas where the wire connects. Do your homework, and you will find a design that suits your lifestyle and fits your pup. A dog kennel is an excellent way to keep your pooch safe while you're away. If you would like to discuss kennel options further, then contact a local supplier. |
